Actor-politician Vijay, chief of the Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK), is likely to restart his election campaign from Salem after temporarily stepping back from public events following the Karur tragedy, which left 41 people dead.

The incident took place when a huge crowd surged forward to greet Vijay during a rally in Karur, prompting the party to suspend all campaign programmes.

Party sources say Vijay has been visibly shaken by the loss of lives but remains firm in his decision to continue his political journey. His determination was evident during the recent Special General Committee and Executive Committee meetings held in Chennai, where he addressed senior party members.

At the meeting, Vijay strongly criticised the ruling DMK government, and his sharp remarks reportedly received overwhelming support from district secretaries and office-bearers present.

Leaders from Salem have been urging Vijay to begin his comeback campaign in their district, pointing out that it has a strong support base and lies close to Namakkal and Karur, regions where he earlier drew massive crowds. According to insiders, Vijay has agreed in principle, and initial preparations for a major rally are now underway.

Senior TVK leaders, however, emphasise that the final announcement regarding the date, location and full schedule will be made only by the party’s high command and general secretary. Salem district office-bearers say they are ready to organise the rally at short notice. State-level leaders are likely to visit the district soon to inspect possible venues, apply for police permissions and lay out a detailed security plan, keeping in mind the crowd-control lapses that contributed to the Karur incident.

With the Tamil Nadu Assembly elections drawing closer, expectations among TVK workers and Vijay’s supporters are rising. Many believe that his return to the campaign trail, starting from Salem, will boost morale within the party and set the tone for an intense and crucial election season ahead.
