Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday launched the Mumbai One app, a unified mobility platform poised to redefine public transport in the Mumbai Metropolitan Region (MMR). This app is the first in India to integrate 11 public transport operators, including metro lines, suburban railways, monorail, and various city bus networks, under a single digital framework, propelling Mumbai’s status as a future-ready, smart city.

What is the Mumbai One App?

Mumbai One is a common mobility app that allows city residents and visitors to seamlessly plan, book, and pay for journeys across all major public transport options in the Mumbai area. Instead of juggling multiple apps and paper-based tickets, commuters can make cashless, digital transactions and access any transit mode, metros, local trains, monorail, and buses—using a single mobile application and QR code.

Key features and benefits

Unified ticketing: Mumbai One brings together Mumbai Metro Lines 1, 2A, 3 and 7, Mumbai Monorail, Navi Mumbai Metro, the Suburban Railway, and bus networks like BEST, Thane, Mira Bhayandar, Kalyan Dombivli, and Navi Mumbai municipal transport. All these can now be accessed and paid for through one digital ticket.

No queues or paper tickets: By promoting digital and cashless payments, the app eliminates the need for standing in queues at multiple counters, making the commuter experience faster and more efficient.

Real-time updates: Live journey updates, including unexpected delays, route changes, or traffic advisories, are made available on the app. Notifications show alternative travel routes, estimated arrival times, and crowding levels at stations.

Multimodal route planning: The app’s journey planner suggests the fastest and most economical options, showing ticket fares, interchange points, and connection times for multi-modal trips.

SOS and safety features: For emergencies, the app offers an SOS button and location-sharing functionality to guarantee user safety and rapid response if needed.

Map-based information: Users receive map-based suggestions for nearby transit stations, attractions, restaurants, and other points of interest in Mumbai, making the app useful for residents and tourists alike.

Tri-lingual and inclusive: The app supports Hindi, Marathi, and English to suit Mumbai’s diverse commuter base. It is free to use, with only apply actual transport fares, as all operational costs are backed by the Maharashtra government.

How to use Mumbai One

To get started, users simply download the Mumbai One app from Google Play or the Apple App Store and verify their mobile number via OTP. The app then allows for trip planning, ticket booking, and payment, all within a streamlined interface.
