The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Wednesday announced its second list of 12 candidates for the upcoming Bihar elections 2025, with folk singer Maithili Thakur emerging as the most prominent face. Thakur, known for her soulful folk renditions and strong youth following, has been fielded from Alinagar constituency in the Darbhanga region.

Thakur enjoys immense popularity for promoting Maithili culture and language. The announcement came a day after she formally joined the party during a ‘Milan Samaroh’ in Patna, alongside former RJD MLA Bharat Bind. Party leaders believe her candidature will energise young and first-time voters across the region.

Besides Thakur, the BJP’s second list includes Ram Chandra Prasad from Hayaghat, Rajan Kumar from Muzaffarpur, Subhash Singh from Gopalganj, Vinay Kumar Singh from Sonepur, and Siyaram Singh from Barh. Six other names feature in the list, reflecting a mix of new faces and experienced leaders to strengthen the party’s base across key constituencies.

This announcement follows the BJP’s first list of 71 candidates released on Tuesday, which included top state leaders such as Deputy Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary from Tarapur and Deputy CM Vijay Kumar Sinha from Lakhisarai. Together, both lists signal the party’s early and aggressive push ahead of the elections.

Polling for Bihar’s 243 Assembly seats will be held in two phases, November 6 and November 11, with counting scheduled for November 14.

The BJP, which has been focusing on grassroots mobilisation and social media outreach, is expected to ramp up its campaign efforts in the coming weeks, facing tough competition from the INDIA bloc and Jan Suraaj.
