The early trends from the Bihar Assembly elections 2025 indicate a significant lead for the National Democratic Alliance (NDA), which has crossed the crucial majority mark by securing over 122 seats out of the 243-member assembly. This early edge is a strong indication that the NDA, led by Janata Dal (United) chief and Bihar’s longest-serving Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, is on course to retain power with a comfortable majority.

As per the early vote counts, the NDA is leading on more than 130 seats, with both BJP and JDU crossing the 50-seat mark. The alliance’s main rivals, the Mahagathbandhan (Grand Alliance) led by Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) leader Tejashwi Yadav, are trailing with leads in around 55 to 70 seats. The new entrant, Prashant Kishor’s Jan Suraaj Party (JSP), has not made a significant impact, holding on to just a few seats in the early trends.

On the opposition side, Tejashwi Yadav is the chief ministerial candidate of the Indian National Developmental Inclusive Alliance (India bloc / Mahagathbandhan), which includes Congress, RJD, and Left parties.

The voter turnout this election was impressive at over 67%, reflecting the high stakes and keen interest of Bihar’s electorate. While the Mahagathbandhan had hoped for a change, the early trends indicate the electorate’s preference for the stability and development narratives pushed by the NDA. The final results are awaited, but the momentum clearly favors a renewed mandate for the NDA government in Bihar.
