Kotak Mahindra Bank is witnessing another high-profile leadership change as Manish Kothari, the head of its commercial banking business, has stepped down, according to people familiar with the matter. His resignation marks the third senior-level exit at the bank in 2026 and the second major departure since Managing Director and CEO Ashok Vaswani announced that he would not seek reappointment for a second term.

Earlier this year, the bank’s Chief Technology Officer, Bhavnish Lathia, also resigned, citing personal reasons and his relocation to the United States. Kotak Mahindra Bank has not officially confirmed Kothari’s resignation. Moneycontrol has reached out to both the bank and Kothari for comments, and the story is expected to be updated once an official response is received.

Kothari Plans Entrepreneurial Venture

According to sources, Kothari is planning to launch his own entrepreneurial venture and currently has no intention of joining another financial institution. His responsibilities are expected to be taken over by Anu Aggarwal, the bank’s Head of Corporate Banking. Kothari reported directly to Aggarwal, making the transition relatively seamless. Aggarwal is likely to oversee the commercial banking business in addition to her existing responsibilities.

Nearly Three Decades at Kotak Mahindra Bank

A veteran of the Kotak Mahindra Group, Kothari joined the organisation in 1995 and built a career spanning almost 30 years. He was appointed Head of Commercial Banking in 2022, leading key businesses including agri finance, gold loans, microfinance, logistics finance, and other commercial lending segments. Around the same period, his long-time colleague Paritosh Kashyap, who also joined the bank in 1995, took charge of the wholesale banking business. Both executives rose through the ranks over nearly three decades, becoming key members of the bank’s leadership team.

Impact on Kotak Mahindra Bank Shares

From a market perspective, Kothari’s resignation is unlikely to have an immediate material impact on Kotak Mahindra Bank’s business fundamentals, as no changes have been announced to the bank’s strategy or operations. However, the departure adds to a series of senior management exits that investors may monitor closely. While leadership transitions can create short-term uncertainty and influence market sentiment, analysts typically focus on whether such changes affect business execution, loan growth, asset quality, or profitability. Since the bank is expected to transition Kothari’s responsibilities internally to Anu Aggarwal, operational disruption is likely to be limited.

Investors will also keep an eye on Kotak Mahindra Bank’s succession planning, particularly after CEO Ashok Vaswani’s decision not to seek another term, as continued leadership stability remains an important factor for long-term investor confidence.
