Tragedy in Bengaluru Rural: Man, 2 children found dead

A man and his two children were found dead in Gonakanahalli village of Hoskote taluk, Bengaluru Rural district, police said on Sunday.

The deceased were identified as Shivu and his children, while his wife, Manjula, survived the tragedy and is currently under police custody. According to preliminary investigations, Shivu had suffered a major accident several years ago and had been largely confined to his home since then. The family was reportedly battling severe financial difficulties, which may have played a role in the unfortunate events.

KL Rahul and PETA gift mechanical elephant to Kerala temple

Indian cricketer KL Rahul, in collaboration with PETA India, has donated a life-size mechanical elephant named Padmanabhapuram Padmanabhan to the Sree Padmanabhapuram Mahavishnu Kheeram temple near Guruvayur.

The unveiling took place on the occasion of Sree Krishna Jayanti. The temple will now use the mechanical elephant for rituals, ensuring that real elephants are spared captivity and can roam free in the wild.

Bengaluru to get Rs 1,100 crore road infrastructure boost

Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar on Sunday revealed that Bengaluru will receive Rs 1,100 crore for road repair and construction projects. Making the announcement on ‘X’, he said the state government’s priority is to provide smooth, pothole-free roads across all constituencies.

Indira canteens face quality check after complaints

The much-lauded Indira Canteens, which were established to provide affordable meals to Bengaluru’s working-class population, are now under scrutiny following complaints of deteriorating food quality.

The Greater Bengaluru Authority (GBA) has directed a comprehensive inspection of canteens in the west zone to address public concerns. Officials said corrective measures will be taken to restore the scheme’s original intent of serving hygienic, low-cost meals.

Health department flags alarming trend in schoolchildren

Fresh data from the state’s health department has highlighted a concerning trend among schoolchildren. In the past three years, over 19.3 lakh cases of skin diseases and 18.8 lakh dental problems have been recorded across Karnataka.

Under the Rashtriya Bal Swasthya Karyakram (RBSK), the government screens more than one crore children annually at anganwadi centers and government or aided schools for 40 different health conditions. Authorities have stressed the need for targeted interventions to address emerging health issues among children.
