Heavy rains lash Hyderabad and neighbouring districts
Hyderabad witnessed heavy downpours on Sunday, with East and North Hyderabad recording particularly intense spells of rain. Scattered storms also affected several districts across Telangana, including Nalgonda, Yadadri Bhuvanagiri, Sangareddy, Siddipet, Kamareddy, Warangal, Mahabubabad, and Khammam.
The sudden showers caused waterlogging in several parts of the city and disrupted normal movement. Meteorological officials have cautioned residents to remain alert as scattered thunderstorms are likely to continue in the coming days.
Two arrested for selling deer meat
The Tolichowki police arrested two men for allegedly hunting deer and selling its meat. The accused were identified as Mohd Saleem Mosa (47), a doctor from Sabza Colony, and Mohd Iqbal (48), a realtor from Bazarghat. Police seized 10 kilograms of deer meat and three pairs of antlers from them.
Authorities stated that the duo had illegally hunted the animal and were storing the meat for commercial purposes. Legal action has been initiated against both individuals under the Wildlife Protection Act.
Milad un-Nabi processions held across Hyderabad
Although Eid Milad un-Nabi was officially observed on September 5, processions were carried out across Hyderabad on Sunday. The old city witnessed large gatherings, particularly in Shah Ali Banda, Charminar, Nampally, and Yakutpura.
Devotees participated in traditional processions marked by religious chants and community celebrations. The police made extensive security arrangements to ensure peaceful conduct of the processions, as thousands of participants thronged the streets.
Drug racket busted at Hyderabad private school
The Hyderabad police uncovered a drug racket being operated from a private school building in the city. Authorities arrested three individuals, including Malela Jaya Prakash Goud, the director of Medha School.
According to police, classrooms and restricted zones were secretly converted into makeshift laboratories for producing Alprazolam, a banned substance often used in the adulteration of toddy.
Telangana government vows to protect Krishna water rights
The Telangana government declared that not a single drop of Krishna river water would be wasted. Irrigation Minister N Uttam Kumar Reddy emphasised that the state would ensure maximum utilization of its rightful share for irrigation, drinking, and industrial purposes.
He also confirmed his participation in the upcoming Krishna Water Disputes Tribunal (KWDT)-II hearing scheduled for September 23.
