Floodgates open at Osman Sagar and Himayat Sagar
Heavy rainfall in Hyderabad’s catchment areas on Friday caused a sharp rise in water levels at the twin reservoirs of Osman Sagar and Himayat Sagar. Authorities responded by opening the floodgates to manage the inflow.
The Hyderabad district administration has issued an advisory urging residents living in low-lying downstream areas to stay alert and follow safety precautions. Officials continue to monitor the situation closely to avoid any untoward incidents.
Hydraa clears Rs 500-crore encroachment in Shamshabad
In a major anti-encroachment drive on Saturday, Hyderabad Revenue and Agriculture Authority (Hydraa) demolished unauthorized structures at Shathamrai village in Shamshabad mandal. The demolition covered iron sheds and boundary walls constructed on 12 acres of government land.
Officials revealed that the land, valued at around Rs 500 crore in today’s real estate market, had originally been allocated to the Board of Intermediate Education in 2011. The reclaimed land is now back under government control.
Real estate businessman murdered in daylight attack
A 45-year-old real estate businessman Srikanth Reddy was stabbed to death in public view in Hyderabad. Police identified the main accused as Dhanraj from Lalapet, a former employee who was fired nearly 20 days ago for repeatedly reporting to work intoxicated.
Despite being dismissed, Dhanraj often returned to Srikanth’s office, pleading for his job back. On Friday evening, after consuming alcohol, Dhanraj and an accomplice confronted Srikanth and fatally attacked him. Police have registered a murder case and launched a manhunt for the accused.
Internet outage disrupts life for thousands
Hyderabad residents continue to face severe inconvenience due to an ongoing internet outage that has persisted for over 20 days. The issue began in late August when the electricity department removed unauthorized and low-hanging cables following multiple electrocution deaths in the city.
Areas like Yakutpura, Madhapur, Begumpet, Uppal, and Gachibowli remain badly affected, with thousands of broadband users struggling.
Colleges to step up protest over fee dues
Private professional colleges have announced that they will intensify their ongoing protest against the State government. The institutions, including engineering, pharmacy, MBA, MCA, and B.Ed colleges, began an indefinite closure from September 15 citing the delay in release of fee reimbursement dues.
The Federation of Associations of Telangana Higher Education (FATHI) has scheduled a general body meeting on Sunday to finalise an action plan. College authorities argue that the delay has crippled their operations and left thousands of students in uncertainty.
