Charlie Kirk, a leading conservative activist and close ally of President Donald Trump, was shot and killed during a public event at Utah Valley University on Wednesday. Charlie Kirk was speaking to a crowd of about 3,000 people outdoors as part of his organization’s “American Comeback Tour” when a single gunshot rang out. During a live debate session, Kirk was discussing topics including mass shootings and transgender issues when he was struck in the neck by a bullet.
He collapsed immediately, and chaos unfolded among the attendees. Kirk was immediately transported to a nearby hospital, but he succumbed to his injuries within hours. Video captured the incident and showed Kirk seated at his debate table moments before the attack.
Authorities temporarily detained two people but released them after confirming no ties to the shooting. As of September 11, a manhunt for the unknown shooter continues with the FBI and several law enforcement agencies involved.
